The MAIT 2021-2022 Educational Plan aims to bring the concept of crafts and the work carried out by the center to the students of the island of Tenerife, in addition to offering various workshops and educational games. This MAIT program includes all educational levels and revolves around two fundamental axes: the visit of schools to the museum, where they can choose between the didactic itineraries, in the form of a guided tour, or the designed workshops, and the visit of the museum in the School Craft Days, where training on traditional trades is disseminated. In this case, it is a proposal aimed at students from Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), the majority over 12 years of age.

Rosette and pottery

Within the section of the visit of the centers to the Museum of Ibero-American Crafts of Tenerife, guided itineraries will be offered through the rooms of the center, with different themes such as the trip to the origin of crafts, myths and rites, musical instruments, relationship between the Canaries and crafts, the rosette of Tenerife or the pottery on the island. These visits, which last approximately 50 minutes, are for all educational levels. What’s more, Didactic workshops are offered, such as toys, clay, dolls, jewelry, natural dyes, traditional pottery and a didactic game, Knowing the Canary Islands. In addition, in this course workshops on traditional clothing and different weaving techniques have been added, both 50 minutes long and aimed at students from the fifth year of Primary Education.

School Days

With regard to teaching in the educational centers themselves, the initiative focuses on the launching of a School Craft Conference, with two options: traditional pottery and textile fibers and natural dyes. These activities are public and free for all educational centers in Tenerife, and will be carried out with the pertinent measures to prevent contagion from Covid-19, continuously updated according to the evolution of the pandemic. Applications from centers interested in participating are registered in order of arrival “until the established quota is completed.” Each session lasts two hours, approximately, and includes theoretical and practical part with an artisan of the trade, who also performs a live demonstration. In addition, it is planned to carry out a workshop with the students.

“We want to give continuity with this school plan to the informative objectives of the MAIT, whose purpose is to spread, protect, preserve and transmit to the new generations the artisan values that are part of our hallmarks of identity”
