The four councilors from the PSOE of Arona Critics of the mayor, José Julián Mena, who remained in the municipal government group, have given up continuing in the local Executive after presenting their resignation this afternoon at the head of the areas they managed before the Citizen Service (SAC) of The Christians.
The resignation of José Luis Gómez, Councilor for Youth, Elena Cabello (Social Services), Yurena García (Citizen Participation) and Pura Martín (Holidays and Seniors) occurs in the week in which the candidacy of the current mayor is expected to be confirmed to the re-election for the third time under the acronym of the PSOE.
As this newspaper was able to gather, the resignation of the four mayors as members of the government team, they entered “within the foreseeable” and indicated that their tasks will be assumed by the six mayors of the local Executive.
The relations between the two opposing sectors of the PSOE in the City Council were broken as a result of the dismissal of the Councilor for Urban Planning, Luis García, in June 2020, a measure that opened a deep crisis that the PSOE tried to settle with the expulsions of Mena and García, and that the mayor stopped in court.
Last Saturday, during the Regional Committee of the party, the general secretary of the PSOE in the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, endorsed Mena as a candidate and called “to redirect with all the comrades who stood for the 2019 elections to strengthen and make the PSOE of Arona, Tenerife and the Canary Islands bigger”.
