the supermarket chain Aldi yesterday opened its first store in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, within the framework of its expansion plan in the Canary Islands. The new establishment, located on Avenida de la Democracia number 14, in San Isidro, is the seventh opened in the Archipelago and the fifth on the Island, and will open its doors from Monday to Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The supermarket has a commercial area of more than 1,300 square meters and has a car park for 105 cars, with four spaces for recharging electric vehicles. 23 people will work in the new space, of which 19 are from the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, according to the company.

During the opening ceremony of the store, the person in charge of Expansion of Aldi in the Canary Islands, Agustín Estades, invited the neighbors to learn about the “new purchase option” offered by the company in Tenerifewith more than 330 Canarian products, and highlighted the close relationship with local producers, “in whom we fully trust to be able to offer a quality shopping basket at the best price,” he said.

For his part, the mayor of Granada, José Domingo Regalado, stated that the implementation of Aldi in the municipality “represents a commitment to economic activity, competitive development and the generation of employment among our population, in addition to its commitment to the local product in a municipality of the future that generates opportunities, advances and grows”. Likewise, the councilors María de la O Gaspar, Yanira González and Marcos Antonio Rodríguez attended the inauguration.

According to the chain, the new supermarket has solar panels that make it possible to take advantage of 97% of the energy generated for consumption by the store itself. In addition, the establishment has been equipped with LED lighting and home automation, with the aim of avoiding product losses due to breakdowns and improving the operation of lighting and air conditioning. The facilities also use CO2 as refrigerant gas, a more sustainable and efficient alternative to other options available on the market.

In the new supermarkets opened by the chain in the Archipelago, more than 330 items of Canarian origin are offered, such as fresh food, dairy products, drinks, frozen foods and cosmetics, among others, from 60 island producers. In addition, a hundred products are identified with the Soy Canaria seal.
