SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The International Clownbaret Festival (FIC) will be held between October 3 and 16 in La Palma, La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Tenerife and with a total of 132 performances and activities by 29 international, national and local companies that include premieres national and regional.
The Cabildo de Tenerife hosted this Tuesday the presentation of this sixteenth edition in which the first vice president of the Cabildo and island councilor for Culture, Enrique Arriaga, presented the details together with the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez; the Councilor for Culture of La Laguna, Yaiza López; the Councilor for Culture of Adeje, María Rosario Clavijo and the artistic director of the festival, Brian Rodríguez.
During the presentation, Arriaga explained that one of the lines that the Cabildo de Tenerife is setting “is that culture not only focus on the metropolitan area, but also reach all the municipalities, as in this case that the FIC will visit Adeje, Santa Úrsula, El Sauzal, Los Realejos, Santiago del Teide, Vilaflor de Chasna, El Rosario and Guía de Isora”.
In this way, he said, “we want to involve the entire island in outstanding cultural activities.”
In addition, the councilor highlighted “the creativity of the companies dedicated to clowning on the islands, which meet every year at this event to bring laughter to everyone” while not wanting to overlook “the quality and professionalism that behind all the national and international artists that will meet at this event”.
For his part, the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, assured that “since the first edition the festival has been closely linked to Santa Cruz and that “this has led to its audience being consolidated.”
For this reason, he congratulated the management for the quality and quantity of performances and thanked them for bringing the show back to the streets.
The Councilor for Culture of La Laguna, Yaiza López, highlighted one of the activities, “an inclusive workshop that will be given in this municipality for people with and without disabilities that, through this artistic branch, will encourage play and adventure” .
Within this line, the Councilor for Culture of Adeje, María Rosario Clavijo, emphasized the ‘clownferences’, which will take place in different schools and explained that the objective of these talks is “to make the little ones aware of sensitive issues such as gender violence, through the performing arts”.
To finish, the artistic director, Brian Rodríguez, commented that this edition of the FIC “is especially important because it resumes activity on the street after the pandemic, since it will have numerous traveling shows that will bring laughter to all the people who are on the street. And not just those who come to the festival”.
TRAVELING EXHIBITIONS AND PERFORMANCES
The festival reveals the most outstanding clowns on the current scene and highlights this artistic discipline with artists from countries such as Belgium, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, France and Austria.
These include local companies such as Circanario or Sky Circus, national companies such as Carlos Adriano or La Troupe Malabó, and international companies such as Paolo Nani or Les Bubb.
During the days that the festival lasts, the different Canarian municipalities will host activities ranging from photographic exhibitions to comedy performances, passing through traveling shows, mosquito shows and musical games.
Most of these events will be free admission, except for those that are held in closed spaces such as theaters.
In addition, the FIC has an educational nature and therefore offers workshops and conferences that aim to promote creativity, develop acting techniques and awaken the most clownish side of the participants.
Specifically, these are activities that will be open to the general public but will be adapted to specific groups such as schoolchildren or disabled people.
