Yesterday, Candelaria Díaz presented her resignation from the act of councilor of the City Council of La Laguna and, in a statement, reported that she is leaving Canarian Coalition (DC). The announcement was made between criticism of her political party until now and days after participating in an event in Nueva Canarias (NC), which she attended as a guest. In the statement there is no mention that she intends to join the ranks of the Gran Canarian nationalists.

Almighty nationalist mayor in the past mandate – she concentrated the Treasury, Urban Planning and Historical Heritage – Díaz now regrets the “falsehoods” that have been poured out on her. “Throughout my militancy I have defended our initials with loyalty and work, even on occasions when I have not agreed with any of the decisions that have been adopted,” he says in the statement, in which at no time does he say that is to be integrated into NC.

«A minority of pretentious and self-important mistreats members»

Candelaria Díaz – Former CC Councilor

“Lately in politics, what loyalty means is misunderstood and what some want is submission and obedience at the service of their personal interests,” says the councilor until now. “I have been enduring for three years that some colleagues in our party, in order to strengthen their personal aspirations, have prevented me from properly carrying out my work as a councillor, blatantly isolating me little by little in decision-making,” she says. “These colleagues have generated totally false rumors about me, making her feel mistreated for a long time,” she adds, before stating that the rumor that she was going to Nueva Canarias was launched from CC. “And all this with the intention of discrediting me and thereby exhausting me and pushing me to leave the party,” Diaz continues.

“I consider the treatment to which I have been subjected to intolerable, without anyone putting order”

The former councilor adds in the statement: “I consider the treatment to which I have been subjected to intolerable, without anyone putting order. I believe that no person should put up with a situation like this and continue working for a party in which a minority of domineering and pretentious mistreats members and colleagues. I have come to the conclusion that I should not continue in a project in which some have no limit when it comes to carrying out defamation, the malicious spreading of lies and other similar actions, with the sole aim of guaranteeing themselves a position in the sun and live from politics. It is evident that nobody corrects such behavior and, therefore, they understand that anything goes». And she settles: «Today the glass has been filled. If some behave like this, and those who govern the party bless their way of acting, I understand that for consistency and integrity I must leave the minutes and leave CC from this moment.

Before the resignation and the statement, from CC they took iron away from the presence of Díaz in the act of NC. Asked during the press conference in which he denounced alleged irregularities with the tickets of the Theater Leal, the candidate for mayor of La Laguna, Jonathan Domínguez, indicated that Díaz was affiliated with CC and that there were no problems. The next on the Canary Coalition list after previous substitutions is Cristina Darias, who was already a councilor from Laguna. She is followed by psychologist José Juan Rivero and Olga Esther Santos, trusted personnel during the past mandate.
