SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, admitted this Monday that “it has taken too long” to convene the Canary Islands-State bilateral commission, citing as an example that the last act was approved in July, more than a decade later, so that “we will have to ask why in those years, with other presidents, it was not signed”.
In response to a question from NC-bc, he indicated that the management of the coastline “is not easy” and is “fundamental” for the archipelago, but the transfer of competences in Coasts has been achieved and with sufficient personnel, as has happened with financial protection of local corporations and defense of competition.
He has said that there are communities that “take up to five years” to obtain powers and the objective is to close some more before the legislature ends, such as private security, maritime rescue or permits for foreigners.
Luis Campos, spokesman for NC-bc, values that “it has been achieved” that the transfer of powers in Costas does not “minimize” the spirit of the Statute of Autonomy, the same thing that has happened with those of financial guardianship of local corporations and defense of the competition.
He has pointed out that “self-government has grown” and hopes that “it will be a point and followed” to continue developing the Statute because there are still “many” pending such as hostels, maritime rescue, prisons or private security.
He has also indicated that when the Canary Islands have had competitions “it has been shown” that it has gone “better”.
