SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, has predicted this Monday that the file to declare the Gomeran whistle as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) will be completed before the end of the year.
In response to a question from ASG in the control session of Parliament, he acknowledged that the process is going “from strength to strength” and that it is “an honor” that it has the recognition it deserves.
The counselor has detailed that the processing began on February 4 by the General Directorate of Heritage, which transferred the documentation to the Ministry of Culture so that it could be registered provisionally.
In addition, a report was requested from the Museum of History of Tenerife, the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and all have been positive, “and now what is missing” is a hearing process that ends soon and a proposal for a resolution to be referred to the regional government.
The ASG spokesman, Casimiro Curbelo, commented that the Cabildo de La Gomera and cultural associations have promoted the BIC declaration and has underlined whether there is a “real will” to resolve the file before the end of the Legislature.
He has insisted that the Gomeran whistle is the only whistled language in the world and that it must be “protected”, already recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
