José Alexis Baute Sanjosé, with the fantasy Checkmate the King by Borja Abreu, was proclaimed King of the Tenerife Summer Carnival, during a vibrant and exciting gala, last Friday night in Puerto de la Cruz, broadcast on Directly on Canarian Television from the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex, and which featured performances by Carlos Baute, Agoney, Nalaya, Cristina Ramos, Jadel, Naomi Reverón and the Carnival groups. The more than 1,500 attendees gave themselves up and enjoyed the creativity, talent and excellent work of the 14 applicants and their designers, as reported yesterday by the City Council.
The new King will be accompanied by his court of honor made up of Jonay Méndez Martín, who was chosen fourth finalist, wearing a fantasy by Alfonso Baute entitled Dawon, representing Oroterapias; the title of third finalist went to Jonathan Amaro Galindo Pérez, who on behalf of Alfa de Luna Shop wore the fantasy La Tentación, by Suárez Pesenti. For his part, Juan Pedro Ascanio was designated as the second finalist with his fantasy Alisios, by Jorán Torres and his team, who paraded on behalf of the cultural, recreational and commercial association, + Q Fiesta, Arte and the City Council of The Realejos; and this court was closed by the first finalist, Joao Sousa Da Cruz, with Eduardo Martín Quintero’s fantasy entitled The Legend of the Amazon, on behalf of Cash & Carry Julián Hernández.
Canarian Carnival
The gala, dedicated to the 90s and directed by Enrique Camacho, was presented by the Canarian actress Yaneli Hernández, who unveiled the audience and viewers, but not without first asking the mayor of the tourist city for “permission” with the humor that characterizes him. Marco Antonio González Mesa, who “because of seniority, because of pedigree and because this Carnival was truly born with a summer vocation”, the Summer Carnival of Tenerife became, from that Friday night, the Summer Carnival of the Canary Islands, which already announces its date of celebration for next September 2023.
Then, after the election gala, the first of the parties took place on the esplanade of Playa de Martiánez, with the entertainment of Puretas Party and DJ Chris Hernández. While last night the Float Party was held, which featured Morocho and Dj Renzzo el Selector.

The Tenerife Summer Carnival reaches its last day today with the celebration of the Coso, which will color the streets of the city and in which more than a thousand people will participate. The parade will begin in the Plaza del Charco at 5:00 p.m., and will go through the streets of La Marina, Santo Domingo, Zamora, Avenida Familia Betancourt and Molina, Obispo Pérez Cáceres and Avenida de Colón.
The components of the Son Bahía comparsa, the King of Carnival and his royal court, the Carabao Guayana comparsa, the Baraberé batucada, Monana, the Children’s Throne float, the Tabajaras comparsa, Wild Dance, the Abenaura comparsa, the murga + QPotras, the float of the ambassador and her court, the Río Orinoco troupe, the Hespérides group and the Bahía Bahitiare troupe.
At the end of the tour, at 7:00 p.m., the end of the party dance will begin at Martiánez Beach, enlivened by the DJ Why Not.
