The Vice President of the Canary Islands and Minister of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs, Román Rodríguez, went yesterday to the municipality of Santa Úrsula to formalize the transfer of the Casa del Capitán to the mayor of the town, Juan Manuel Acosta, and hand over the keys to the property. Rodríguez recalled that it is the second time that he has come to Santa Úrsula “invited by the mayor and the Corporation to take stock of what we committed to two years ago. So we began negotiations to acquire the Casa del Capitan, a building with a lot of history, and then we have sought the necessary financing for its rehabilitation and start-up as a Site Museum”, he specified.

“The commitment that we acquired for the acquisition of this property is completed and, in addition, we guarantee 1.5 million euros, in an amendment that we presented to the State Budget Law. Therefore, this project, which was a claim by this municipality, is fully channeled”, said the vice president after explaining that the total investment will be 1.7 million, after adding the 200,000 euros that its acquisition cost through the General Directorate of Heritage and Contracting directed by José Julián Isturitz, present at the signing of the assignment.

Román Rodríguez insisted that, after the last visit to Santa Úrsula, “we also promised to study the feasibility of reforming the institute’s sports pavilion, which had been unfinished since 2007. Despite having 800 students, it does not have facilities sports. The educational center has been operating without this complementary equipment and we have already obtained the necessary total financing. Right now we are finalizing the procedures so that the work can be tendered and executed by the Consistory itself”.

In the same way, the vice president added that, at the time, “we talked about improving the Health Center and some open spaces in the municipality, which are already channeled, and we have analyzed with the mayor and his team the new needs of Santa Úrsula to the which we will try to answer soon. From the Vice Presidency of the Government we want to contribute to improving the quality of life of the residents of this municipality”.

Mayor Juan Manuel Acosta expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Canary Islands for the transfer of the property, which will be for 30 years.
