Motorhomes wait, above all, for the summer to be able to enjoy their car-houses on the Island or outside of it, but every year at this time, despite the continuous meetings with the town councils, there are more obstacles that are put to them. park their vehicles, even, “in breach of the road safety law itself,” says the President of ACAT (Tenerife Motorhome Association), Juan Martín.
The ACAT leader wanted to meet the latest statements of the Councilor for Citizen Security of Guía de Isora, José Rivero, where he asks motorhomes to “respect the law”, after announcing that since June 24 sanction proposals have been raised, for failing to comply with the municipal ordinance on “parking, noise and spillage”, recalling in turn that in authorized areas “You can only park a maximum of 72 hours.”
Martín affirms that these statements about motorhomes and camping sites “are quite far from reality, they continue to demonize us, harass us and look the other way, when the evidence is right next to them, in the parking lots next to the Palacio de Isora hotel, Those who can pass under the gauges installed there, they do camp, take out chairs, tables, barbecues, hang clothes, empty in the flowerbeds … and, however, those who are chased are the motorhomes that have all the services sanitary. How long is this persecution going to continue? ”He wonders, indignant.
Martín recalls that his association has the epigraph of “ecologist” and that anyone who does not comply with it is sanctioned or discharged from the group of motorhomes that he presides, “where there are professionals from all sectors, including police and civil guards, knowledgeable about road safety laws and municipal ordinances “, recalling that” our associates spend more than 50,000 euros on their motorhomes, we are talking about wealthy people who leave money wherever they park their vehicle, in Guía de Isora or anywhere else from the Island or the Canary Islands ”, commented Martín.
Reminding him that there have been meetings with city councils to define camping areas, he pointed out that “in Guía de Isora, for example, the only camping area is in Chío, not on the coast, where you can only park. There are only three private campsites on the island, some of them closed, although it is true that there are municipalities that stand out for supporting us, such as San Miguel, Garachico or Los Silos ”, he commented. “We want municipalities to be more receptive,” he continued, “to get to know us, to let us propose. It cannot be that humiliating treatment that we receive from some municipal governments ”, he concluded.
