Honors for Óliver Suárez, deceased neighborhood leader

The municipal group Canarian Coalition-PNC requests that a file of honors and distinctions be opened for the young Óliver Suárez Tomé, Taco’s neighbor who He died on August 23 when a stone fell on him on the beach of Alojera, in the Gomeran municipality of Vallehermoso. The motion presented by the spokesperson and candidate for the Laguna Mayor’s Office for CC, Jonathan Domínguez, for tomorrow’s plenary session highlights “his involvement in the social and cultural life of his neighborhood, El Pilar, in Taco, with a very active participation from very young man to start organizing and promoting these same actions himself and innovating with others, motivating the residents of the neighborhood to be part of them».

According to CC in a statement, Óliver Suárez began his career as part of the board of directors of the Tiden Youth and Sports Association to, later, with another group of young people from the neighborhood, create the Jiribillas Youth Association in the El Pilar neighborhood. From this social and youth platform, he promoted actions to encourage youth participation in the neighbourhood, cultural and leisure actions, participating in various youth forums, highlighting his involvement in the different candidacies that the Municipality of La Laguna presented to be European Youth Capital. For several years he was linked to the El Pilar Neighborhood Festival Commission. He was a fundamental piece for the organization of the Festival in Honor of the Virgin of El Pilar. A few years ago he became part of the board of directors of the Larpi Neighborhood Association, helping to promote activities in the neighborhood. An active member of the ICI Taco Intercultural Community Intervention Project, he worked committed to strengthening coexistence and social cohesion. “An enthusiastic person, with values ​​and always willing to help others, so his sad and sudden death leaves an indelible mark on those who knew him,” Domínguez highlights.
