Thousands of people from Tenerife accompany the Virgen del Socorro from seven in the morning on her way to the village that gives her name. the traditional relief descent does not lose an iota of history and tradition.

After Bishop Bernardo Álvarez’s mass, the Descent began, after two years suspended due to the pandemic, with enormous expectation, in such a way that two hours after departure the Virgin had not even reached La Asomada, so it had to be lightened the passage of the image while behind it the parrandas and the carts could hardly walk, when the pilgrims were already exchanging the morning broth for the cane of beer when the sun began to warm up.

According to Magüi Campos, Councilor for Culture and devotee of Socorro, some 50,000 people They would have met along the way. “It has barely been possible to walk to Las Tanquillas, due to the number of people there.”

The Virgin is expected to arrive at the Socorro hermitage shortly before twelve o’clock in the morning, where the strong wind will relieve the walkers of the four kilometers that separate San Pedro from Socorro.

So far there has been no outstanding incident and the prohibition to climb the Big Mountain has been respected.
