The residents of the historic hamlet of Icor, in Arico, as well as the surrounding areas of Los Morales, Los Jorge, El Bueno and Fuente Nueva, demonstrated yesterday by car through those villages through the TF-28 until they reached the gates of the City Hall of Arico demanding from the rulers “dignity for rural life”.

After gathering in front of the Consistory, the group of demonstrators, led by Germán Borges, former president of the Icor neighborhood association, was received by the councilors of the Treasury, Víctor García, and of the Environment and Urban Planning, Andrés Martínez, who, despite the protests of almost a hundred demonstrators, managed to explain that the City Council has an investment plan of 12 million euros. It contemplates, among other actions, “the asphalting of the Chajaña road and the Las Eras connection,” said García, who acknowledged that “this lack of investment in the area does not come from now, but from long ago. Today the important thing, the money, we have it, the only thing missing is the contracting procedure, ”he explained to the neighbors. One of them, unconvinced, replied: “But how much does it cost to drive a piche truck?” He also advanced that “the reformed electricity project for Fuente Nueva” has already been approved and awarded, while the arrangement of access and water “is pending the Environment reports,” he explained.

For his part, Andrés Martínez, who has been in the local government for three terms, the first thing he did was apologize, announcing that on this occasion “there are already projects and they are approved.”

The residents of Icor and the entire mid-range area of Arico demand, above all, the paving of their roads and paths, which they have defined as “true minefields”, as well as “elementary services to make life easier, fix the population in this area, generate a rural economy and avoid the systematic abandonment of farms and houses”.

For the dignity of rural life was the slogan used yesterday at the demonstration, which had 70 cars and a hundred people.
