Work begins to build a new jetty in the Masca ravine

The Cabildo de Tenerife has begun work to build a new pier in the Masca ravine that allows boats to take or pick up hikers on one of the most impressive trails on the island. This was reported by Dautedigital, an internet newspaper that detailed that The winning company is preparing the seabed to receive the prefabricated pieces (in the form of a dike) that will serve as protection for the new jetty. A total of 46 blocks will be placed, the lightest 5 tons and the heaviest 11, adds Dautedigital.

More than a year after the reopening of the Masca trail, the Cabildo was aware of these works to allow boats to dock at the end of this ravine. The first forecast provided by the Island Corporation pointed to the completion of these works at the end of this year. But there was a delay that has forced the works to begin this September, taking advantage of the fact that the sea is calmer at this time of year.

The complete remodeling of the Masca jetty has a budget of more than one and a half million euros and an execution period of six months. The Cabildo de Tenerife is putting out to tender the renovation of the Masca jetty for 1.6 million. The route through the bed of the Masca ravine has been in operation since March of last year, although the experience cannot be completed by going out to sea because the pier is not practicable, the island’s councilor for Natural Environment Management, Isabel Garcia. “The reform of the jetty is essential to complete this environment and for this reason the Cabildo opened a process to execute these works and to complete this long-awaited and necessary project for both the municipalities of Buenavista and Santiago del Mount Teideby offering the option of going out to the walkers by the sea and not having to return up the ravine, ”Garcia has detailed.

The Cabildo uses a pontoon, a floating platform, to transport the blocks with which it will protect the new pier in the Masca ravine. In these images appears the pontoon (above) and the blocks that are being taken to Masca.
