SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep. 5 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has blocked this Monday the possibility of implementing an eco-tax in the Canary Islands -which has been requested by Sí Podemos, a government partner– as long as the “uncertainty” in the sector is not resolved in the face of the winter campaign in the face of a possible energy crisis.

In an interview granted to ‘Radio Club Tenerife’ and collected by Europa Press, he commented that the ecotax is in the “government program”, specifically evaluating its study and the destination of the money collected, but he understands that it should be spoken “calmly” .

He has indicated that on two occasions an attempt was made to open the debate but it did not come to fruition due to the bankruptcy of the tour operator Thomas Cook and the outbreak of the pandemic and now he has stressed that “the important thing is to consolidate the arrival of tourists” before imposing new tax rates.

PUERTO DE ADEJE

On the construction works of a tourist development in Puertito de Adeje, he pointed out that the opening of a sanction file for the promoter company for 600,000 euros shows that “the law is being defended”.

He pointed out that the project has been in the pipeline for some 30 years and beyond possible political “gestures”, he commented that when an official signs a report he does so in compliance with the law and because he understands that the regulations have been breached –in this case the destruction of an archaeological site–. “I hope that things are done with common sense and strict compliance with the law,” he stressed.
