The town of Los Cristianos turned out yesterday with its patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen, the faithful protector of fishermen, on one of the most anticipated days in the festive calendar after two years of pandemic.

Thousands of people, as well as members of the corporation presided over by the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, accompanied the image in the land procession from the parish that bears his name to the beach, where they attended the Mass celebrated in his honor.

The religious ceremony was preached by the reverend of the church of San Lázaro, in La Laguna, presided over by the parish priest of Los Cristianos and sung by the musical group Al sur.

Later, the Virgin was embarked, as is tradition, and they took her to make the maritime journey, accompanied by several boats, to the tip of Palm-Mar. After arriving, they returned to the altar located in the Old Dock, where the Arona Music Band was waiting for them.

To round it off, the public enjoyed one of the most eagerly-awaited acts: the great fireworks display in the bay of the fishing village and then the procession returned to the Los Cristianos church.

traditional cucana

Within the programming of the Fiestas del Carmen de Los Cristianos, yesterday the traditional cucaña was also celebrated on the beach, in which only the most adventurous men and women dared to walk along the wooden pole to try to reach the banner. A tradition of decades that made everyone who came to the dock to enjoy it vibrate, laugh and applaud.

Likewise, the children of the municipality had their own space with various activities, surprises, a foam party and inflatable castles in the squares of Los Caídos and La Pescadora.

The residents of Los Cristianos will enjoy the last day of the festivities today, where traditions will once again take center stage with the celebration of the boat ring and the salpicón, to end with the end of the festival dance in the Plaza de The Fisherwoman.
