SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep. 5 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has been in favor this Monday of the former autonomous presidents receiving a salary “if they are part of a council, they ask for it” and Parliament decides it.

In an interview granted to ‘Radio Club Tenerife’ and collected by Europa Press, he understands that it is not a strange measure and even calls it “abnormal” that they do not charge when they mainly provide advisory services.

Torres believes that “it would be a mistake not to take advantage of his knowledge and experience” and has stressed that he currently has a government “with very experienced people” and a younger one, something that is “the perfect mix”.

He has said that the former presidents “can give various advice because they lived it” and also highlighted that they have had a great “sacrifice” both personal and family derived from their position. “They did it because they wanted to, but history must give them the space they deserve,” he detailed.

The Government has already sent to Parliament the draft law that regulates the figure of former presidents as a life position with access to certain services of the autonomous community, although for now it does not include financial compensation.
