Social Action announces 576 places for tourism for the elderly within the Island

The Cabildo, through the Institute of Social and Socio-Sanitary Care (IASS), publishes in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) the bases of the social tourism program in the interior of the Island for people over 65 with limited financial resources. The project has 576 places, is endowed with 259,200 euros and is aimed at 31 municipalities. The subsidy can be applied for by all the municipalities of Tenerife, which will be in charge of disseminating the campaign and selecting the participants from among those who meet the requirements. Each local entity has a minimum quota of ten positions and the rest, 266, will be distributed based on population criteria.

In Tenerife there are 158,054 people over 65 years of age, almost exactly equivalent to the 158,010 inhabitants of La Laguna. Aguere, with 45 seats, and Santa Cruz, with 69, are the ones with the most, followed by Arona (18), Puerto de la Cruz (13), La Orotava (12), Los Realejos (11), Granadilla de Abona ( 10) and Adeje (9).

disconnection

The Minister of Social Action of the Cabildo, Marián Franquet, explains that this initiative seeks to give the group a few days of vacation and disconnection, but also to generate meeting spaces, in addition to promoting active aging, integration and improvement of the quality of life of older people. These will be able to access leisure and cultural activities from an integrating perspective at different points on the Island of Tenerife. Groups of 24 people will be created and will be housed for five days and four nights.

Councilor Franquet explains that in this edition, the first after the pandemic, “internal tourism has been promoted with the idea of favoring the economic reactivation of the Island” and, she adds, “generate a symbiosis with the hotel sector to show that social action is profitable and favors us all». Four establishments have joined the initiative, two in the North and as many in the South.

Among the requirements that the beneficiaries must meet are being over 65 years of age, having two registered in the municipality and not exceeding a certain economic income. They range from 8,106 euros per year, in the case of family units with only one member, to 19,455 for those with three or more.

Regarding the distribution of places and with the purpose of guaranteeing that it is equitable, the Cabildo agrees to grant a minimum of ten to each of the requesting municipalities, provided that the beneficiaries meet the required requirements, while the remaining ones will be distributed in based on the percentage of the census population over 65 years of age.

Campaign diffusion

The IASS recalls the importance of town councils disseminating this campaign through the means at their disposal in order to make the group to whom it is addressed aware of the subsidy. The deadline for submitting applications will be 20 business days from the day following the publication in the BOP, which took place last Friday.

The zonal exchange is one of the premises. Thus, through this program a vacation option will be offered in the north of the Island for those who live in the south and vice versa; that is, a proposal in the south for citizenship in the north.

The places granted include full board accommodation, transport from the municipality of residence and insurance. In addition to the aforementioned complementary leisure and free time activities.
