SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Office of Equality between Women and Men and Gender Violence of the Common Council has initiated an ex officio investigation into the delay in the processing and resolution of non-contributory pension applications, where the majority profile of applicants are women over 65 years who have worked at home or outside of it, but without having been registered with Social Security.
In this regard, the Institution’s Deputy for Gender Equality and Violence, Beatriz Barrera, met with the General Director of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Javier Bermúdez, in order to deal with this problem and request information on the list of women with applications pending resolution, the number and percentage of female applicants with respect to the total number of applications, as well as the average resolution time.
From the General Directorate of Social Rights they recognized that there has been an accumulation of files that has produced the delay in the processing and resolution of these requests until the end of 2021, which, to a large extent, was due to the lack of personal resources and digitization of the management system, collects a note from the Diputación del Comun.
In response to this situation, the general director reported on the establishment of a shock plan based on the increase and reinforcement of these personal and technological means, which is managing to reduce the waiting list at the rate of 1,000 applications per semester.
The CEO also expressed his intention that in the near future this shock plan will reduce the waiting list to zero and update the management of non-contributory pensions.
To follow up on this, Barrera and Bermúdez agreed to hold a future meeting to check the status of this problem.
“The most important thing is that the General Directorate of Social Rights is aware of these facts and is already taking measures to improve and reduce the waiting list through this shock plan. It is a satisfaction to know that the administration is in the process of solving a matter of such relevance as this, in which so many people in vulnerable situations are affected,” Barrera said.
