The company presented to the City Council a “communiqué act” – a document in which it is informed of the interest in undertake works and reforms that do not require a technical project-. The urban inspection carried out by the City Council found that the scale of the works being carried out “were not covered” by this figure.
At present, the Urban Planning area proceeds to study and evaluate in detail the state of the work to determine which part of it may be subject to the communicated act and the necessary conditions to establish which other part may be subject to legalization.
The affected building is located at the entrance to the town of Guaza, near the South Highway. It is the property that for many years housed the facilities of a concession company of the multinational Renault, which ceased activity as a result of the 2007 crisis. The building was subject to embargo by Banco Santander, being later acquired by a businessman based in the area, who sold it to the current property.
Interest of the Consistory
In the middle of the last decade, the Arona City Council made public its interest in acquiring these warehouses. The government of the moment, formed by the Canary Coalition (CC), made public (at the beginning of 2015) the existence of conversations in this regard. The purpose was to locate in this building a new headquarters for the Local Police, as well as the municipal vehicle depot, the maintenance service workshops and the Civil Protection units.
Its dimensions and its location next to the highway and the TF-66, as well as its equidistance from the most populated tourist centers of Arona made the property an ideal space to locate the municipality’s security complex. A situation that did not go unnoticed by the current mayor, José Julián Mena, who even considered the possibility of advancing in that line. Measure that discarded, finally.
