The City Council of Santa Cruz, through the area of Works and Infrastructures, in charge of Councilor Dámaso Arteaga, has proceeded to award the contract for the Remodeling of Dique Street, in San Andrés, which contemplates an investment that exceeds 900,000 euros and that must be ratified by the next Governing Board, at the beginning of September, “an action that plans to adapt its current use, intended mainly for traffic and parking, to that of a free public space classified as a square,” says the mayor, Jose Manuel Bermudez.

“In this case -advances the mayor- the priority will be pedestrian and leisure use, leaving a lane for the restricted traffic of neighboring vehicles and loading and unloading” and adds that “on the other hand it is planned to provide the parking line of the Avenida Marítima of a sidewalk, since there is currently no pedestrian itinerary between these car parks and the surrounding roads” and adds that “this street at the entrance to the town will be provided with adequate lighting that is attractive to visitors and tourists, in addition to the action planned in the surroundings of the Castle, the front of San Andrés will be modernized and beautified”.

For his part, the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure affirms that “this action contemplates the adaptation of the road and sidewalk and pedestrian fords, adjusting to the accessibility regulations for people with reduced mobility, while the bus stop in the Avenida Marítima and the landscaping of the environment will be produced” and insists that “the design of a new drainage system, conditioning of efficient public lighting and the use of urban furniture and some gardening”, which will mean a comprehensive remodeling of the street Dam with an investment of over 900,000 euros”.

It must be remembered that this proposal, in addition to other projects that are already under way, in different phases, was presented to residents, merchants and fishermen of San Andrés last October, where in a meeting, the mayor, accompanied by the councilor of Works, Dámaso Arteaga, and the councilor of the Anaga district, Inmaculada Fuentes, collected the suggestions regarding two other projects to improve the quality of life of the residents, such as adapting the rehabilitation of the surroundings of the Castle, in addition to presenting a alternative for boat docking outside Las Teresitas.
