Santa Cruz de Tenerife will convert Dique street in San Andrés into a semi-pedestrian street

The Santa Cruz City Council, through its Works and Infrastructure area, has awarded the contract for the remodeling of Calle Dique, in San Andrés, in order to adapt its current use, intended mainly for traffic and parking, to that of a free public space cataloged as a square.

This has been indicated by the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, who has detailed, as reported in a statement, that “the priority will be pedestrian and leisure use, leaving a lane for restricted traffic of neighbors’ vehicles and cargo and download”.

Likewise, he added that “it is also planned to provide the parking line of the Avenida Marítima with a sidewalk, since there is currently no pedestrian itinerary between these car parks and the surrounding roads” in addition to “providing this street with adequate lighting make it attractive to visitors and tourists.

The Councilor for Works and Infrastructures, Dámaso Arteaga, has detailed that this action contemplates the adaptation of the road and sidewalk and pedestrian crossings, adjusting to the accessibility regulations for people with reduced mobility, while the bus stop in the Maritime Avenue and the landscaping adaptation of the environment will take place.

This reform project, for which the City Council has made an investment of more than 900,000 euros, must be ratified by the next Governing Board, at the beginning of September.
