It seems that the Avenida Familia Betancourt y Molina is once again recovering and no longer being forgotten by administrations and businessmen. There, in the center of Puerto de la Cruz, two buildings like the iders building and the Martiánez hotel, remained in oblivion. Until now.

The situation first changed a month ago when it was declared imminent ruin, fenced, unoccupied and is awaiting demolition once the owners present a technical project.

The second, was abandoned by its owners, Artola and the Austrian Bank, since 2005, although the problems in the establishment began at the end of the 1980s when it became a timesharing (multi-ownership or shared sale) and the workers began to suffer delays in the payment of payroll and countless problems with the property, which led to the filing of a hundred complaints and led to the closure.

Finally, after more than two decades it will be acquired by some businessmen “who have already decided to commit to the municipality with the renovation of an important hotel that has been closed for a long time in the center and now they will do it with this one”, confirms the mayor of the tourist city, Marco González.

“The property has an agreement commitment. The preliminary project is already being prepared to present it and it will be officially confirmed shortly, but it is a reality that the property is going to be acquired”, she insists.

The president also assures that the works of the emblematic Taoro hotel will begin next month after the company Tropical Turística Canaria SL (TTC), winner of the public tender called in 2019 by the Cabildo de Tenerife, requested an extension during the pandemic.
According to the contract signed at the time, the company will make an investment of more than 25 million, which includes the rehabilitation and improvement of the building, closed in 2006, the equipment and the gardens surrounding the property.

The mayor indicates that he has also requested the possibility of managing the Congress Center. “We believe that it is an important opportunity because it has been an underutilized property and now that we are launching initiatives such as ‘Veranos del Taoro’, it is understandable that the company also wants to manage the Center to have a cultural program,” he justifies.
