Hundreds of pilgrims, members of the Government of Arico and the plenary accompanied Our Lady of Abona with devotion on her way during this past weekend in El Río, Las Vegas and Chimiche. Also present at the pilgrimages, both on Saturday and Sunday, were the mayor of Granadilla de Abona, José Domingo Regalado, and members of his municipal government.

On Friday, the image was accompanied by neighbors from the church of San José Obrero de La Cisnera to El Río. On his way he had an emotional meeting with San Bartolo, patron saint of the neighborhood, before arriving at the parish church of San Bartolomé, where a Eucharist was celebrated.

The next day, Our Lady of Abona left the aforementioned church. At the Chimiche-Las Vegas crossing she was greeted by Our Lady of Hope, a banner, and welcome rocket fire. Later, at the Colegio Virgen del Pilar, in Las Rosas, a stop was made where the Ave Maria was sung, by Juan Antonio el Charro. Next, at Pino La Jaba they met the Danza de Varas de las Vegas, who accompanied them to the hermitage.

On Sunday, the Virgin of Abona left the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza with a peal of bells and the launch of flyers. During the pilgrimage, a short break was held at the altar of Las Rosas. Later, at the intersection of Chimiche-Las Vegas, the meeting took place between the patron saint of the South and Arico with the Virgen del Carmen, accompanied by the Chimiche Dance of Rods to the church square of the Granada neighborhood.

Upon his welcome, Pedro Delgado González recited several poems. Finally, a mass was celebrated, enlivened by the group Corazones Alegres from Granadilla de Abona, there was a toast in the same square, where the singer Manuel Dorta performed.

The mayor of Arico, Sebastián Martín, congratulated “the work carried out by the colleagues from the Granadilla City Council, the festival commissions and neighborhood associations of El Río, Las Vegas and Chimiche and the different areas of the Consistory that have been involved in their totality during these days”.
