Last July, the summer camp for people with disabilities and functional diversity was launched in Passion fruit. The objective of this initiative is to increase the quality of life of people with functional diversity, improve their personal development and facilitate their social integration, as well as reconcile the work and personal lives of their families.

But, according to the spokespersons for the Socialist Group and Citizens in Granadilla, Jennifer Miranda and Adán García, the first day the service was going to start for one of the users was not like that, when his family received a call in which he They request that their child be discharged because they do not have staff to attend to him. For the socialist spokeswoman, who describes the events as “very serious”, the expulsion of this minor “denotes an absolute lack of empathy with people who need special care and their families”, emphasizing the fact that in the request of registration “the City Council was informed of the disability of each user”.

For Jennifer Miranda, the municipal government has generated “false expectations” with the service, first accepting applications with knowledge of the users’ disabilities and then leaving them without a camp. All this, emphasizes the socialist spokesperson, has been “a serious detriment to the affected families, who feel cheated and very upset, since they had planned their time counting on this service.”

The spokesman for Ciudadanos, Adán García, points out that with the exclusion of a minor with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from the summer camp for people with disabilities and functional diversity, the municipal government promotes the “social exclusion” of this group, in addition of violating the right to leisure of these people. According to Adán García, the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party continue to put obstacles to the inclusion and adaptation of minors with ASD.
