The Civil Guard detains a man in Tenerife for jihadist terrorism

The Civil Guard has detained in Santa Cruz de Tenerife a 32-year-old man sentenced last February to two years in prison for terrorist indoctrination of jihadist inspiration, when the National Court considered that he represented a danger if he remained at large.

The arrested man, EMC, a resident of La Laguna, had shown signs of being “fascinated by the violence deployed” by terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda and DAESH, the Civil Guard said in a statement released by the Interior Ministry.

And, in addition, the investigators managed to find out that he was trying to “become a mujahideen” (fighter for the jihad), “as demonstrated by conducting a series of experiments with explosive substances aimed at producing a viable device.”

“The detainee stood out for systematically exploiting his jihadist radicalism to inflict degrading treatment on his partners” and has been convicted “of crimes of gender violence,” adds the Civil Guard.

EMC has been admitted to the Tenerife II penitentiary, after being brought to justice.
