The Department of Municipal Services of the City Council of La Laguna, through the Teidagua joint venture, has completed the work to improve and guarantee the supply of drinking water in La Rúa, San Roque and Lomo Largo. The works consisted of the installation of a conduit with a larger diameter through an area that is much more accessible than the previous channel, which was smaller and located in a ravine, which complicated maintenance and renovation work.

The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the mayor responsible for the area, Josimar Hernández, have visited the place to check the completion of the action, which has recently culminated in the resurfacing of the La Rúa road, through which the new pipeline runs.

The works, with a budget of 100,000 euros, imply “a very important improvement of this basic service for citizens, because they allow to increase the supply of drinking water that some 1,000 inhabitants of the area receive and we are already prepared to be able to respond to the foreseeable increase demand”, highlights the local councilor. In this sense, he warns that “already in recent years there has been a greater consumption in the municipality” (of more than 100,000 cubic meters per year) and details that a growth of the population is expected in these nuclei for the future Therefore, with the new installation, “we are already prepared to guarantee supply”.

Along the same lines, Josimar Hernández highlights that “one of the main lines of action” established by the area and the joint venture is “to invest in operational improvements and security of supply, through the execution of works such as the one carried out in the area of The Rua”. This has been based on the deployment of a transport pipeline that connects, “by means of a much more accessible itinerary”, the deposit located in this place with that of Lomo Largo, “thus replacing the one that had been used until now moment and that is located in the ravine of La Carnicería”.

The councilor specifies in this regard that the old installation was “an operational risk, because it had suffered various breakages and damage caused by vegetation and runoff and it was very difficult to reach the riverbed to be able to undertake maintenance and repair work.” The new conduit, therefore, “not only allows to increase the supply, but also to enjoy a totally renewed and easily accessible channeling”, he adds.
