Ports of Tenerife, among the most transparent in the port system

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is among the first in the country in terms of transparency management, with a portal for this purpose on the home page of its website (www.puertosdetenerife.org) from which you can access all the requirements that the Law of Transparency, Access to Public Information and Good Governance collects in this matter.

Thus, the Port Authority of Tenerife is the only one in the Canary Islands –and one of the six national port authorities– that offers this advantage, an element that deserves a particularly noteworthy evaluation by the Court of Auditors. And it does so in its recent audit report on the application by the port authorities of the economic reactivation measures in the transport sector during 2020, and their impact on the strategic planning of the port system, a document that although it recognizes that, in general terms, , compliance with the regulations to this effect in the global port system is still very improvable, some ports are already at the forefront in said compliance.

Specifically, state ports are required to make public contracts, a list of signed agreements, grants awarded, budgets and annual accounts. Audit reports and remuneration of senior officials are also added.

Thus, the Tenerife Port Authority publishes data on its transparency portal such as the curriculum and remuneration of its president and director, as well as their profile and professional career; information of legal relevance, such as projects submitted to public information, contracts, code of ethics and the 2021 Business Plan itself, that is, the budgets of the Port Authority for the current year.

The president, Carlos González, highlights that the web portal is a pioneer in applying inclusive technology

Carlos González, president of Puertos de Tenerife, acknowledges that “although much remains to be implemented to fully comply with the regulations, it is true that we are on the right track and that our port occupies an advantageous position in this regard”. Above all, if you take into account that, “in addition to sticking to what the standard requires, our portal is also a pioneer in inclusive technology.”

And it is that this advantage also guarantees the accessibility requirements for its web content under criteria of equality and non-discrimination in the access of users, in particular those with disabilities, as well as the elderly.

The Puertos de Tenerife website was a pioneer in 2020 in the implementation of different resources to guarantee access to information for people who are blind, dyslexic, color blind, cognitively disabled and people with mobility problems.

In this way, Puertos de Tenerife escapes from the group of port authorities that, according to the report of the Court of Auditors, present deficiencies in the publication of the information regulated in the Transparency Law. And all this with objective data, away from “open” assessments and data referring to reports published in 2017, based on which some entities have placed Puertos de Tenerife in a place far from where it belongs.

The Transparency Law establishes publication obligations that affect public entities to guarantee transparency and regulates the right of access of citizens to public information. In compliance with this Law, the Tenerife Port Authority makes relevant information available to citizens to guarantee the transparency of its activity.
