The Pinolere Cultural Association will honor The Realejos in its XXXVII Craft Fair, which will be held from September 2 to 4. Although he will be present every day, his special day will be on Saturday, September 3. Within this framework, the presentation of the new gastronomic label of Los Realejos will take place, which will be represented by 10 artisans from various trades and the Atabara Folkloric Group.
The fairground will have a special decoration dedicated to Los Realejos. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the first sowing of old potatoes from the Canary Islands in the royal town of Icod el Alto, a monographic exhibition will be shown during the fair. Likewise, the Hermanos Toste Pyrotechnics will be honored, the oldest in the Canary Islands with more than 200 years of existence.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González, thanked the tribute and considered his presence at the fair “a privilege”. He highlighted the value of the realejero people for «maintaining their traditions over time. It is a municipality with character, festivals and always linked to the cultural and ethnographic field.
Line in which the Orotavense councilor, Francisco Linares, spoke: “Los Realejos is a municipality with its own identity and stamp that has preserved and pampered its traditions for centuries.” For the host mayor, “the fair is thus the substance of Canarian feeling and an open window of Canarian”.
The manager of the Pinolere cultural collective, Jesús García, highlights the need to conserve and protect Canarian traditions for popular culture. For this reason, for a decade the Pinolere Cultural Association has paid homage to a municipality in the Archipelago: Candelaria (2012), Teror (2013), Agaete (2014), Fuencaliente (2015), La Guancha (2016) Arure (2017), Sabinosa ( 2018), The Olive (2019). This year normality is restored at the fair after the suspension of the 2020 and 2021 editions due to the pandemic.
