More than 300 people yesterday made the first section of the IV Pilgrimage of the Lustral Festivities in honor of Our Lady of Abona, of an extraordinary nature since they should have been celebrated in 2021 but it was not possible due to the pandemic and this year coincides with the 300th anniversary of its appearance.

Accompanied by the entire Municipal Corporation, the procession left at 6:00 p.m. from the main church of San Juan Bautista, in Villa de Arico, and traveled a stretch of 2.9 kilometers until it reached La Cisnera, the nucleus that forms the border. At her entrance, San José Obrero, patron saint of the neighborhood, received her along with the neighbors and all the honors that the patron saint of the municipality and honorary and perpetual mayor of the South of Tenerife deserves: cheers, shower of petals and party music.

From that point they moved to the parish of La Cisnera where a vigil was held until today and from where it will leave for El Río.

In this case, the journey is much longer since it comprises 4.3 kilometers of the 82.6 that he will travel in total until Tuesday, September 6, the last day of the pilgrimage, in which he will visit all the neighborhoods of the municipality in addition to Chimiche and Las Eras, from Granadilla, for religious reasons.

The Lustral Festivities began successfully last Friday with the Proclamation in the San Juan Bautista church and continued on Saturday with the XXX Torch “for the unity of Arico and solidarity among its people” and the tribute to the ariquero sport.

The festivities culminate on the 18th with the Ascent of the Virgin to La Villa de Arico. At 11:00 a.m. the fight will be held in his honor on the beach of La Punta de Abona, two hours later the mass will be celebrated in Las Mercedes, followed by the farewell in the square of La Punta de Abona and the reception in the church of Saint John the Baptist.
