Neighborhoods and towns of La Laguna celebrate their most popular festivities starting this week, after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic. There are many towns that this summer have once again enjoyed their most emblematic events on the streets, such as the recent boats of the Virgen del Carmen in Punta del Hidalgo and La Barranquera, in Valle de Guerra, and there are places that continue to join in with their traditional dating. These days it is the turn of La Candelaria, Valle Jiménez, Las Gavias and San Bartolomé de Geneto, with their first religious and popular acts to kick off their festivities.

In the neighborhood of La Candelaria, the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, was in charge of reading the announcing proclamation this Wednesday, at the proposal of the Festival Commission. In his speech, he traced a journey through the memories of his childhood lived in the neighborhood: “I have never forgotten where I come from and what my origins are, because those experiences helped me to better understand the place where I live and the idiosyncrasies of its people. That knowledge is what I try to apply every day in my work at the head of the municipal government, with our successes and our mistakes, but with the certainty that it is worth working for a town like this: of hardworking, fighting people, who make an effort for getting ahead and who also knows how to have fun when he plays, as they show every year at these parties, which we happily recover after two years of long hiatus”.

The program in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria will continue until Sunday 28 with a variety of activities.

Valle Jiménez starts today with its celebrations for the Virgin of Fátima with the reading of the proclamation, by the Councilor for Finance and Economic Affairs and Citizen Security, Alejandro Marrero. The population will be able to enjoy Latin Night this Saturday, with dance workshops, while on Sunday the first tortilla contest and the humor show by Juanka will take place.

Las Gavias and San Bartolomé de Geneto are other towns that are starting their festivities today, the first with the election of the queen and the second with the traditional scandal to announce the celebration -with batucada, costumes and decorated cars- and the Fiesta Young man.
