The Cabildo de Tenerife reinforces its promotion as a destination for cycling tourism with the publication of a map of road routes that includes more than 30 routes for professional and amateur athletes with the aim of continuing to promote the practice of this sport among residents and tourists.

The map includes the mountain passes, routes and points of interest in Tenerife for bicycle lovers, the Cabildo specifies this Tuesday in a statement.

Its content includes the more than 30 mountain passes located throughout the island territory, with the distance and the average percentage of ascent of each one of them.

The points of tourist interest through which each route passes are also referenced, such as the areas of Anaga and Teno, on the Low Island, or the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and which represents an iconic ascent in any of its slopes.

According to the Cabildo, cyclists belong to the active profile that are within 15% of the travelers who arrive annually on the island.

In 2021, 58,920 tourists say they have practiced cycling/mountain biking out of a total of 2,320,313 tourists, that is, 2.5% of the total number of tourists who visited Tenerife.

Among the qualities of the island for cycle tourism, a wide and well-preserved road network stands out.

Lovers of this sport value the possibility of driving on routes up to 2,000 meters above sea level, at the foot of Mount Teide or at sea level.

All this together with a pleasant temperature and a great variety of scenarios where to pedal, with routes that allow a complete preparation, adds the note.

Along with amateur runners, professionals of recognized prestige arrive in Tenerife every year as a prelude to their participation in events such as the Tour de France, World Championships and the Olympic Games.

On the map, through colorimetry, all the roads and bicycle paths are shown, indicating how suitable they are for cycling, from recommended routes, with little traffic and good asphalt, to roads on which you have to drive with caution. .

The map can be downloaded in the cycling section of the official tourist website of the island (www.webtenerife.com).
