Ten weeks to cure and return a raven to its habitat in El Hierro

The last request for help came a month and a half ago from Meridian Island. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, veterinarian of his Cabildo, contacted Alejandro to explain the situation of a crow with a broken leg. La Tahonilla welcomed the treatment.

Suárez refuses to name the raven or any other wild animal that must return to nature. That of this bird was a complicated process of ten weeks that ended with the return to its Island a few days ago to fly again in freedom. Eduardo Hardisson, Los Majuelos veterinarian, played a key role in the delicate operation of the fractured joint. Suárez values: «They are very territorial, strong and intelligent animals; with its wings free to fly it was difficult to control it and keep it still.’ They had to put some irons on him to fix the wound that they removed after five weeks. In addition, the fracture was next to the ankle. “He went well,” he sums up. After being cured, the animal was returned to its habitat in El Hierro. The veterinarian concludes: “It is in danger of extinction and has an unfairly bad reputation.”
