SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, 14 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de La Gomera and the Bishopric of the Diocese of Nivariense have recently signed an agreement for the rehabilitation of the ecclesiastical heritage of the island for which the Island Corporation will allocate 240,000 euros to promote actions in churches and hermitages.
In a statement, the president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, pointed out that the objective is to safeguard the movable and immovable property of the existing ecclesiastical heritage on the island, “which have a high heritage value that needs to be conserved and preserved to put it at the service, use and enjoyment of society”.
For this reason, coverage will be given to projects such as the restoration of the images of El Salvador del Mundo and the Virgen de la Milagrosa in the Church of El Salvador, in Alajeró.
In the municipality of San Sebastián, it will go to the restoration of the image of San José in the Hermitage of Tejiade, and the altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception and that of San Juan Nepomuceno, in the Iglesia Ntra. Señora de la Asunción.
Meanwhile, in Vallehermoso, the altarpiece of the Crucified will be restored in the Hermitage of San Bartolomé, located in Alojera; the bell of the Hermitage of Our Lady of Las Nieves in La Dama, and those of the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria, in Chipude.
To this is added the rehabilitation of roofs, pavements, sanitation, plastering and painting, among other works, to be carried out in the Hermitage of San Benito, in San Sebastián, and in the Ntra. Sra. de La Salud temple, in Arure.
However, this first agreement is linked to a later one to give continuity to the list of needs transferred by the Bishopric.
Likewise, the Cabildo has acquired the entire Casa Echeverría, the property located between the Archaeological Museum and the Casa Bencomo, to incorporate it into the island-owned infrastructure and expand the facilities of the Archaeological Museum.
