It is an internal process in which militants and leaders carry out an analysis “within the internal democracy of a party that seeks a better future for Tenerife and the Canary Islands, as a party that builds its own identity as a political force from the bottom up.” .

Coalition understands that Fonsalía “will not go ahead after the impact statement expires”

Canary Islands Coalition in Tenerife explains that the debate on Fonsalía «enters into its analysis of the island’s development strategy, from the point of view of the protection of the environment, the economy, employment and tourism, in addition to bringing together and evaluating the different sensitivities of the training regarding this matter ”. Another of the premises that they expose refers to the fact that «Tenerife nationalists defend territorial integrity and the ecological health of the Island and the Canary Islands, from a responsible exercise of debate and internal democracy ”.

In parallel to the internal debate, in which the different sectoral commissions of the party take part, CC de Tenerife undertakes to hold meetings and meetings with different organizations, groups and specialists to gather all the opinions and sensitivities that this project arouses. “We open to debate with our bases and specialists the solutions in a democratic and open process in which the defense of the natural and environmental heritage of Tenerife must be combined with a sustainable development of infrastructures”, they detail in a statement.

The Tenerife nationalists thus analyze the situation of the Fonsalía project after the expiration of the environmental impact statement, “a situation that makes the viability of this port null for the next few years,” they say.

The fault is of the PSOE

For Coalición Canaria, the island is currently “in a situation in which the lack of political action and lack of investment weighs down its development, which makes Tenerife lose political, economic and social leadership weight”. The nationalists believe they know where the origin of all this is: “This is only the fault of the PSOE, Pedro Martín and the Government of Ángel Víctor Torres.”

In its criticism, CC accuses the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, of “insisting on the project of the Port of Fonsalía which, precisely, is planned in Guía de Isora, a municipality of which he was mayor for many years (24)”. Along these lines, the Tenerife nationalists affirm that “this has also led to an internal division of the PSOE, which is causing Tenerife to lose weight.” CC affects this reflection to state that «the Island cannot continue to pay for the weakness of the regional and Tenerife Socialist Party; the first, submissive to Madrid and, the second, weakened by internal struggles and unable to defend the needs of Tenerife before his party and the regional government.

At this point, the Canarian Coalition focuses its speech on putting its alternatives on the table. “Tenerife needs real solutions in the short term, that are viable and that offer answers in the coming years.” Having noted the above, for CC the question is clear: “And this probably does not happen through Fonsalía, but rather to improve the Port of Los Cristianos and expand services in the Port of Granadilla,” say the Tenerife nationalists.

In the case of the aronero dock, they accuse the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands – “both in the hands of the PSOE” – that “this infrastructure has been allowed to collapse, which is a clear example of their lack of interest in this infrastructure.” For CC in Tenerife, “a strong commitment to Los Cristianos is essential due to its potential, since its main problem is access, which would lead us to carry out actions on land, which would not cause environmental damage in the area.” In their reading they include that “these actions would be used to promote a tourist and economic rehabilitation” of the town.

The Port of Granadilla appears in CC’s speech as essential: «This facility is an asset that the Island has for the present and the future. In addition, it is already built, with which its uses could be rethought and expanded. Likewise, the Coalition in Tenerife anticipates that “another debate will also be the future of the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which they are letting die because of the Government of Spain and the Canary Islands.”
