The Asociation Tenerife by bike considers the existence of the bike lane “essential” before implementing the public bike rental system, recently announced by the La Laguna City Council. For this reason, the group proposes, in a statement, “to enable a provisional bike lane as long as the definitive lane is not available”, as has been done in other cities.
“This solution involves placing the same red and white barriers that delimited bar terraces with such good results during the pandemic. A resolution or decree from the mayor’s office would suffice so that in a few days we could have a temporary bike lane along itinerary No. 2, which runs between the historic center (it starts at Camino de Las Peras) and the Guajara campus vice versa”, they explained in this regard.
A bidirectional bike lane through which “the electric bikes of the public system and of all those urban cyclists who dare would circulate safely,” they pointed out.
As for the parking spaces that the future lane will remove, “this issue has been considered by the government group for months and, according to certain information, they already have several lots along the number 2 cycle route where they they will be able to park vehicles displaced by the bike lane”, they reported. And with respect to the containers and loading and unloading areas, “the execution project pending a report from the Cabildo for more than six months proposes solutions for it,” they indicated.
