SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister for Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Antonio Valbuena, has confirmed to the Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, that in September a decree law will be approved allowing the construction in Tacande of Up.

This was announced by the Common Deputy after holding a meeting, together with the second deputy, Milagros Fuentes, with the special commissioner for the Reconstruction of La Palma, Héctor Izquierdo, and with the coordinator of the Casa Massieu Economic Area, Miguel Ángel Polished.

The meeting has served to deliver a report that reflects the citizen complaints received by the Institution as a result of the effects produced by the La Palma volcano.

After the volcanic eruption, the Institution added to the 28 work areas that it performs a new department directed towards the people affected by the volcano.

The so-called Area 98 (‘Cumbre Vieja’ Volcano) of the Common Council has received a total of 33 complaints to date from individual claimants (36%) and groups (64%), among which are platforms organized in a spontaneously by those affected, as well as associations set up to defend their rights.

“Today’s meeting is part of the program of the Common Council in defense of the rights of those affected by the volcanic eruption. This report explains the different complaints that citizens have presented in our offices. 21 files from different groups and 12 singles,” Yanes said.

The complaints refer to the three municipalities affected (Tazacorte, El Paso and Los Llanos), the Cabildo de La Palma, the regional and state administrations and other organizations such as the Insurance Compensation Consortium and the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. For processing, the Institution referred all these complaints to the competent administrations.

Among the reasons for the claims, a high percentage addresses the delay in the granting of economic aid announced for the people affected by the volcano and housing permits.

The report provided to the Commissioner also reflects other complaints related to the execution of public works carried out in affected areas of private property, about aid to self-employed agriculture and livestock, territorial policy and reconstruction authorizations in certain areas or the lack of response and information on requests and resolutions of administrative processes.

Regarding the delay in aid deliveries, Izquierdo assured that “we are working to speed up procedures, since we are talking about the key needs of citizens so that they can rebuild their lives and rebuild the island.”

The Common Deputy pointed out that there is a specific case in an area of the municipality of El Paso that is contemplated as landscape protection by the Insular Plan of the Island. “It would be a suitable area for many of the affected people to build their homes.

He also stated that “we have other files of groups that want to collaborate actively in the debate on the economic future of the Island, and some even raise the possibility of being able to return to their properties to rebuild what they lost there.”
