SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 8 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the area of Sustainable Development and Fight Against Climate Change, has launched an awareness campaign through social networks and through outdoor advertising that occupies the stands at the tram stops, which will last until September, to disseminate a total of 36 graphic pieces on the 2030 Agenda and each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The pieces dedicated to each SDG are based on the goals that are set for the achievement of each of the objectives, and expose general and local data on the situation that has led to the declaration of that objective. On the other hand, under the slogan ‘take a step and change the world’, actions are disseminated that from everyday life people, and especially young people, can do to contribute to the achievement of the aforementioned objectives within the framework of the island from Tenerife.

The Councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Javier Rodríguez Medina, has pointed out that this is “a new opportunity to align the participation of citizens in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) at the island level” .

“The elaboration of the Tenerife Agenda will help us promote the development of the island in this line and thus participate in the common effort to promote the seventeen objectives set out by the 2030 Agenda on a global scale,” Rodríguez Medina remarks.

The counselor wanted to remind that they are not only the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that the United Nations (UN) set as a challenge in September 2015 and that range from eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity and well-being for all , to protecting the environment and tackling climate change, both locally and globally.

Also, each of the Goals contains its own ‘goals’, 169 in total, which allow individuals, groups and public and private entities to be able to monitor, evaluate and audit compliance before let’s reach the year of no return in the fight against climate change: “2030 is just around the corner”.

The Government of the Canary Islands has already prepared the 2030 Canarian Agenda and the Cabildo de Tenerife is defining its own Agenda and working to spread the meaning of the SDGs, also enabling the exchange of experiences between different public and private entities and favoring the implementation of the SDGs. in Tenerife society.

The counselor stressed that information, dissemination, communication and, above all, environmental education “are key to publicizing the SDGs, understanding the scope of the goals established by the 2030 Agenda, at a global and local level, and achieving that people form part of this path towards social, environmental and economic sustainability, youth being a fundamental pillar”.
