The City Council of La Orotava opens a new call for people interested in a municipal urban ecological garden of the Doña Chana Cultural and Environmental Park. Some 57 plots of more than a hundred that exist in this municipal space were recently awarded. On this occasion, 21 plots will be drawn and awarded. The deadline for submitting the application ends on September 15 and must be done through the electronic office or by downloading the application and presenting it at the Municipal Registry office. Once the term ends, they will be awarded by public lottery. For more information, you can contact the area through 922 324 444, ext. 2575.
The Doña Chana Cultural and Environmental Park has an area of 4,500 square meters in which these orchards of approximately 30-35 square meters are located. Of the hundred plots, 81 are used for productive leisure, so they are used by family units and citizens registered in the municipality. And there are a dozen plots for educational centers and NGOs in the municipality, and another group for research in which traditional and local seeds are grown.
La Orotava launched this project in 2011 and was a pioneer in the Canary Islands, so many municipalities have requested information to start it up in their localities. At present, this initiative continues to be in demand and productive, with excellent results, informs the City Council in a statement. Products are grown in the orchards following good environmental practices and sustainable agriculture criteria.
