Titsa buses exceed the number of users prior to the pandemic for the first time

The Public buses in Tenerife already exceed passenger levels before the pandemic, in 2019, a fact that corroborates the return to normality and an increasingly widespread use of public transport among the population of Tenerife. Titsa, company of Council of Tenerifeaccounted for 26,572,040 travelers between January and July of this year, which represents an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period of 2019. It is the first time that the accumulated figure has been exceeded since the health crisis derived from covid -19.

The Vice President of the Cabildo and Minister of Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, explains that “these figures confirm the interest in the use of public transport and the commitment from our institution to promote its use and enhance sustainability on the island.” Arriaga adds that “if the accumulated figures for July 2022 are compared with the same month in 2019, Titsa registers an increase, which is the best figure since before the pandemic.” This means that passengers increased by 0.6% compared to July 2019, going from 26,423,120 to the current 26,572,040 travellers.

One of the main keys to this increase can be found in the long-distance lines that connect the north and south of the island, and which increased by almost 20% with almost 674,557 more passengers. The routes of the southern zone grew by 4% compared to the accumulated figure for 2019, with 241,363 more passengers, while the intercity routes of Santa Cruz grew by 12%, with 143,024 more passengers. Arriaga hopes that “this positive trend will continue in the coming months with the new attractive prices of season tickets”, from September 1, such as the Resident Season Ticket, which costs 19 euros and the different group season tickets (seniors, young people and people with disabilities), which will cost 15 euros each.

These bonuses are made from September 1 to December 31 with an extraordinary contribution made by the Government of Spain to face the current crisis situation.
