SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 4 (EUROPE PRESS) –

Iberia Express forecasts a 26 percent increase in capacity in Tenerife for the winter season compared to 2019, reaching eight connections a day with the island before the pandemic.

This was announced by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, after holding a meeting with the CEO of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez Suárez; the commercial director of the airline, Isabel Rodríguez; the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla; and the island director of Tourism, Laura Castro, where the connectivity data of the airline with the island in the summer campaign, as well as the forecasts for the last quarter of the year, have been evaluated.

Martín pointed out that despite the crisis arising from the conflict in Ukraine and the increase in fuel prices, the company has offered “8% more capacity” during the summer season compared to 2019. He added that It is expected that for this winter that percentage will increase “up to 26% more capacity” than the pre-pandemic year.

The president has stated that this is “good news” because despite the fact that a “complicated autumn” was predicted, a weakness in the air market is not suspected, “at least” with the data that the company has offered to date.

On the other hand, it has transferred to those responsible for the company a lawsuit related to the transfer of Presa Canario dogs by airline, after a “repeated” request by the breeders of this native breed that, for legal reasons, cannot travel as pets, both nationally and internationally or other types of appointments.

In this regard, Martín has indicated that this claim has been reported to the airline and information has been shared on the admission processes in the holds, which “are related” to the declaration of the brachycephalic race of the Presa Canario and the weight of the animals. .

In addition, the president has said that, although the BOE indicates that this breed is brachycephalic, the Cabildo has already begun the negotiations, with reports from the College of Veterinarians and the Royal Canine Society of Spain, which indicate that this breed “so characteristic and representative” of the archipelago does not “present problems or pathologies” associated with its structure, which due to morphology “should not be considered” specimens predisposed to suffer from brachycephalic syndrome, so they “should not have any” type of movement restriction on airlines.

Finally, the possibility of establishing some way to mobilize other types of animal species in the warehouse has also been analyzed after having been requested by some groups.
