The tourist businessmen of the Canary Islands ask to be part of the technical commission that will analyze the Costas files

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The tourism businessmen of the Canary Islands have demanded that the Ministry of Ecological Transition be part of the technical commission that will analyze the open files in the process of transferring the powers of Coasts, once the agreement between the central and regional administrations has been signed, with transfer material and human resources from January 1, 2023.

The tourist employers consider that the transfer of powers over Coasts represents an opportunity for economic progress and environmental protection for the Islands, in compliance with the mandate set by the reform of the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands in 2018.

From this perspective, they consider that regional management in the management of the coastline must gain in proximity and efficiency, without undermining compliance with the provisions set by the state regulations that manage the use and protection of the coastline.

Businessmen offer themselves, in this sense, as collaborators with the Administration to convert the Canary Islands “into a model of optimal management of the recently assumed competition, with results that are, of course, much better than those derived from past experience with the central Administration, which has not distinguished itself, at different stages, for its effectiveness and efficiency in resolving issues related to the use of the coastline, both promoted by the public administrations of the Canary Islands and by the private sector”.

As an example of this, they recall “the imprecision and slowness in administrative concessions for various uses related to tourism, always compatible with environmental conservation, and the delays in the authorization and execution of public infrastructure located in the coastal area.”

Based on such precedents, business organizations in the tourism sector congratulate the Government of the Canary Islands for the recent signing of the transfer agreement and offer themselves as interlocutors, with all their experience and specialized technical resources, in this transition process until the assumption of the media corresponding material and human rights on the aforementioned date.

For this reason, the businessmen share the philosophy and objectives of the round of consultations announced by the regional councilor for Ecological Transition with all the sectors involved in the management of the coastline, but in turn demand their presence, by the method determined, in the technical commission that will deal with said transition with regard to the files still in process, which will correspond to the Government of the Canary Islands in strict compliance with the state legislation on transfers of competences (article 20 of the 1983 Autonomous Process Law).
