SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 31 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, has declared an alert situation due to the risk of forest fires in El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria from 12:00 noon on Monday .
This decision is made taking into account the information available and in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response to Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA).
This Monday a slight to moderate rise in temperatures is expected, reaching 38ºC in summits and midlands facing the south, west and east of Gran Canaria, and 34ºC in the midlands of the south and west of the western islands. There will also be haze in height that will mainly affect Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The wind will blow from the northeast with strong intervals on the northwest and southeast slopes of the islands. At altitudes below 400-500 meters the trade wind regime will continue. Above that level the relative humidity will be below 30%.
On the island of Tenerife, the area affected by the Los Campeches fire will remain in an emergency situation, level 1, in accordance with the provisions of declaration 5/2022/INFOCA.
The population is urged to follow the self-protection advice of the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies.
