SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, has requested this Wednesday to increase the staff of inspectors destined to supervise the management of the centers for the elderly in the Canary Islands and that some 12,000 more residential places are enabled since the archipelago lacks about two thirds to comply with the national measure.

In statements to ‘Canarias Radio’ collected by Europa Press, he pointed out that the inspectors make a “great effort” to carry out their work but have “difficulties” because “there are few” and they have “few means”.

Yanes, as a result of the fact that the report made by the institution and corresponding to 25 centers on the islands during 2019 has been made public, has commented that the document was not communicated to the Prosecutor’s Office because they did not see evidence of crime, although he has remarked that many of the complaints are recorded in the minutes of the autonomous community inspectors themselves.

Along these lines, he has pointed out that the Parliament of the Canary Islands is the “appropriate place” to discuss the situation of the residences and therefore, he is waiting for the Social Rights commission to summon him to intervene despite the fact that he has the report at your disposal since last November.

In addition, he has defended “the honesty and independence” of the Diputación del Común, which has tried to “shed light on an unknown reality” and without the intention of “attacking” whoever was in charge at that time. “We do not enter into who governs, we do our job so that the administration defends the interests of the citizens,” he said.

Yanes has commented that a visit to a center in Tenerife in 2018, due to complaints from relatives of residents made public in the media, encouraged them to carry out the visits, which resulted in recommendations to 12 residences, of which six were They promised to correct them and six others did not answer.

However, he believes that the report is “no surprise” for families because “many” are aware of these realities, although it has highlighted that many residences on the islands, both public and private, function properly.
