The Council of Tenerife figure in 2,753 hectares the area devastated by the fire of the island, as explained by the island councilor for the Natural Environment and Security, Isabel García, who added that the flames have been fenced off in an area of 34 kilometers.
Of this area, just over 250 correspond to the Teide National Parka front that, according to the president of the Tenerife Council, Peter Martin“presents total tranquility” although it will continue to be monitored to “avoid outbreaks and if they occur, act on them quickly.”
Martín, who was optimistic about the advance towards control of the flames During the next few days, he lamented that the fire had burned species of broom, Canarian pine and cedars in the National Park “which were also in the process of being repopulated.”
“We cannot say that it is under control because there are many points that are still burning,” lamented the president of the island corporation, however, before recalling that the most worrying area for the firefighting troops is still the Tigaiga slope.
In this sense, he reported that throughout the day it is planned to “cool and moisten that area” with the three helicopters that remain in the operation and he trusted that the drop in temperaturesthe absence of strong wind and the increase in humidity help “to be able to give better news tomorrow”.
In addition, the favorable evolution in the extinction tasks has allowed the opening of the accesses to the mountain as well as the roads that had been closed as the flames got closer. However, Pedro Martín reported that they will remain “restricted” the accesses of route 344“which can only be used for farm maintenance tasks or animal care”.
Some camps and recreational areas are also closed in that area: El Lagar, Fuente Pedro, Chanajiga, La Tahona, Emilo Muñoz and Barranco de la Arena.
