SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 27. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands will present to the island’s primary sector the details, characteristics and regulations framed within the Food Chain Law through two informative meetings that will take place tomorrow, Thursday at 09:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and on Friday, July 29 at 9:30 a.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Multipurpose Building I in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the regional government, Alicia Vanoostende, will inaugurate these information sessions to explain the measures included in the Food Chain Law with the aim of improving its operation, supporting agri-food activity, favoring trade relations of the primary sector and generate fair competition for the benefit of producers and consumers.

One of the main challenges of this regulatory text is the purpose of putting an end to unfair commercial practices and guaranteeing balance in food contracts with the agricultural, livestock and fishing sectors. “I am confident that this regulation will protect the producers of the islands, with more decent incomes and favor the promotion of production efficiency,” said Vanoostende.

The regional manager of the area pointed out that this meeting “will solve the doubts of the sector in the application of this regulation and that the entire food chain is aware of what its obligations are with respect to this law so that, after the summer, we can start with the inspection visits for its application”.

The meeting will try to clarify all points of the Food Chain Law, from the signing of the food contract, the fixing of a price in the contract that is higher than the production costs, to compliance with the payment conditions, to the control of compliance with this rule, materialized by the Ministry.

In addition, professionals in the production, transformation and distribution of agricultural, fishery and food products will be able to learn about the tools that the Ministry has made available to them in recent months, such as the Agricultural Price Observatory and the Export and Export Control Panel. imports.

Both informative meetings can be followed live through the following links: Tenerife, Thursday, July 28 at 09:30 a.m.: https://fb.me/e/1NxIqqwQF. Gran Canaria, Friday, July 29 at 09:30 a.m.: https://youtu.be/IIiDaqWQdwU
