The CC-PNC group in the Tenerife Cabildo hopes that there will be consensus in the extraordinary plenary session called for September 20, in which an initiative will be debated to demand that AENA build a new terminal at Tenerife Sur airport.
It’s a statement, Nationalist spokesman Carlos Alonso recalls that AENA has excluded in its proposal for the Airport Regulation Document for the years 2022-2026 (DORA II) the investment necessary for the construction of the new terminalTherefore, its training will seek consensus to demand its immediate execution.
“We have requested an extraordinary plenary session to seek a unanimous position of all political forces and demand their immediate execution. Tenerife cannot afford the luxury of being left behind in this type of performance ”, Alonso asserts.
The nationalists lament the “lack of leadership” of the PSOE and the island president, Pedro Martín, and assure that they have always “held out” the president so that the Cabildo leads the response to AENA against the Airport Regulation Document, but “only there is silence ”.
“He has not said anything since we presented the petition in August and the Plenary has been automatically called for September 20 by the internal regulations of the Cabildo,” says the spokesman.
Alonso shares the criticism of the president of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce, Santiago Sesé, who has stated in various media that the exclusion by AENA of the construction of the new terminal is “a joke”.
The nationalists insist that AENA promised that the games in the DORA would arrive in the period 2022-2026, “after a meeting that we held three years ago when we reached an agreement in the Cabildo with all the social agents.”
However, “now they leave that action out, while they are going to carry out work in Barcelona, Madrid and Palma de Mallorca”, they denounce.
The CC-PNC spokesperson explains that it is also necessary to count on the social agents “to seek a unanimous position, as happened in the plenary session that we held in November 2018. We have to defend our interests because no one from outside is going to come to help us. ”, He asserts.
Carlos Alonso also claims that the Cabildo must request the support of the island’s institutions and groups, and especially the Government of the Canary Islands, which by virtue of the Statute of Autonomy has powers in airport planning and programming.
“We are risking the future of our economy and it is necessary to establish a common position that involves demanding a new terminal at the South Airport as soon as possible,” he concludes.
