The activation of new hot spots in the north Tenerife fire makes it inadvisable for some 40 residents of the Camino del Madroño in Los Realejos to return to their homes, the president of the island councilPeter Martin.

In statements to the media, Pedro Martín explained that these hot spots, which were practically not perceived yesterday, have been reactivated throughout the day on Tuesday and therefore the technical team for extinguishing the fire has considered that it is not advisable to return to the house of the residents of the Madroño.

These neighbors wanted to return to their homes, especially after yesterday the return of other evacuated families was authorized in the streets of Los Realejos and La Orotava, but this complication, together with the increase in temperatures, discourages doing so, Pedro Martín has reiterated.

In any case, the situation will be analyzed again first thing tomorrow, Wednesday, to assess whether tonight’s conditions are favourable, but for now caution must be maintained, he stressed.

Pedro Martín has also added that now the areas that cause the most concern are Tigaiga and Chanajiga, which are very complicated and in which the aerial means have to act “surgical, very carefully”, since large discharges of water cannot be made. .

This is due to the fact that such a powerful blow of air could be produced that incandescent elements, such as pieces of wood or stones, can be dispersed, and in this way spread the fire further, so the work is carried out with helicopters.

However, Pedro Martín added, the area of the Teide National Park that was of “great” concern throughout this morning has been contained, the seaplanes and helicopters are working “very well” and it seems that the evolution of the works is favorable.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife has also stressed that it will be necessary to remain vigilant in these next few hours, which are the ones that will register the highest temperatures, given the possibility of detecting small attempts “that will have to be contained” until the arrival tomorrow of a moisture front that will cover the area of the fire.
