local police officers Santa Cruz intervened yesterday, Monday, July 25, in aid of two minors, aged 11 and 2, who were in a plot of land in El Sobradillo and who, “apparently, had been temporarily abandoned by their parent“. The policemen went to the area after receiving a notice, around 6:00 p.m., that alerted to this situation. According to the Security area of the Chicharrero City Council, when they arrived at the scene, a neighbor was providing water to the children due to their situation and the high temperatures recorded. The police verified that there was no shaded area in said vacant lot, nor was it possible to locate the mother of the minors.
Before the police presence, several neighbors approached to explain that this situation had already occurred before, corroborating that “the parent usually leaves them alone in that area with some food and they remain there for several hours.” The Local Police indicate that the minors were in a state of great nervousness and their special vulnerability and the seriousness of these events were verified, for which reason the members of the Unit Attached to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office were activated to apply the appropriate procedure in these cases.
“At all times, and with the data collected, an attempt was made to locate the mother of the minors, although with unsuccessful results, so much so that the judicial authority even ordered their entry into a reception center. The neighbors insisted that this behavior is habitual on the part of the mother.. “Assessing the physical condition of the minors, especially the two-year-old boy, their transfer was determined to be evaluated at the Tíncer health center.”
Meanwhile, steps were taken to carry out the proceedings due to the seriousness of the risk to which the minors were subjected and the possible commission of a crime by the parent. Later, in the Communications Room of the Local police a call was received from the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands, in the case of the mother of the little ones, who expressed concern about not finding them on the lot where she had left them.
The 45-year-old woman was treated by a Santa Cruz Local Police commander, who asked her to appear at the police station, where she finally the children were handed over to their mother. In any case, he was informed of all the actions carried out and the transfer of the appropriate reports and proceedings to the relevant authorities, from the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office, the municipal Department of Social Care and the General Directorate for the Protection of Children and Family. of the Government of the Canary Islands.
