SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A total of 70 artisans and experts from five countries in Europe and America will meet this week at the 2nd Seminar on the Rosette, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, together with the Vilaflor de Chasna City Council, on the 28th, 29th and July 30.

The Minister for Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, and the Councilor for Culture, Monserrat González, presented the conference program this morning, to which specialists from Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Croatia and Puerto Rico, all of them countries in which this type of Canarian lace is still made, which is known by other names, such as Soles, Motivos or Tenerife lace, as the Roseta is known in English-speaking countries.

Carmen Luz Baso explained that these days are part of the actions that the Cabildo, through the Insular Craft Company, is developing to preserve crafts that are in danger of disappearing, such as the Rosette, one of the oldest manifestations of art Canarian textiles, which, as he pointed out, “has had a great importance that this trade has had as part of popular culture and a source of income for the family economy of our islands”.

He stressed the importance that this trade has had both inside, in municipalities such as Vilaflor de Chasna, and outside the Archipelago, where it spread as a result of Canarian emigration, helping to internationalize the name of Tenerife and he opted for the new edition of the Conferences allow an international network of exchange and knowledge that helps keep the rosette technique current

For her part, the Councilor for Culture of Vilaflor de Chasna thanked the Cabildo de Tenerife for having chosen the municipality to hold these Conferences, in which twenty artisans from the town will participate, and value the needlework that they have traditionally made women.

The first two days of the Conference, on June 28 and 29, will take place an extensive program of workshops and presentations in which it will be explained how the rosette technique is worked in the different countries and the works on this craft that Throughout this year, the students of the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Superior Design have made it, among whom is Daniel Hernández Alonso, author of the poster for this edition.

On the last day, there will be a Monographic Fair on Saturday, July 30, in which artisans who have attended the event will participate, along with a representation from Tenerife and Lanzarote.
